The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently confirmed Hays CISD projections that 14 of the district's 19 campuses received an "exemplary" or "recognized" rating on for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests. Overall, however, the district was rated "academically acceptable."

The Hays CISD Education Foundation gave $31,000 in grants for innovative teachers Thursday night at the districtwide technology showcase. For the school year, the education foundation gave out $70,000 in innovative teaching grants.

Brantle Smith of Wallace Middle School won his second straight Hays CISD chess championship as the school district tries to build a chess program that can compete at the state and national levels.
