At approximately 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night, Barnett said Kyle Police responded to a call reporting possible gunshots in the Waterleaf neighborhood. Officers arrived on scene in the 100 block of Myrtle St. and found Lambert outside with injuries. Medical personnel from San Marcos / Hays County EMS treated him at the scene but Lambert succumbed to his injuries.

Hays County Justice of the Peace Beth Smith pronounced Lambert deceased at 12:02 a.m. She also ordered an autopsy.

KPD Chief Jeff Barnett said officers and detectives are still actively investigating the crime scene and the incident. “We do not believe there is any threat to the community at large,” he said.

Barnett said based on information early in the investigation, a Hays County Sheriff’s Deputy saw a vehicle and driver that fit the description relayed to law enforcement. Barnett said the vehicle was a Ford Mustang that HCSO patrol located just a few miles from Waterleaf.

“It was shortly after KPD arrived on scene that Hays County Sheriff’s deputies along with our Kyle police officers detained four individuals who were questioned for possible involvement in the incident,” he said.
Following interviews with those individuals, KPD arrested Martinez, who was booked into the Hays County Jail.

Barnett said the suspect and the victim knew each other and had a history of feuding. He added that he believes the community at large is safe and that the murder of Lambert by Martinez was a targeted incident.

He also made an appeal to Kyle residents who may have advance information about possible incidents such as this one, saying that if police are made aware, they may be able to save a life and keep the city safer.
