Interstate 35 access reopens after train, semi collision in San Marcos

COMPILED FROM MEDIA REPORTS

The Interstate 35 access road between Aquarena Springs Drive and Texas 80 has reopened after a freight train clipped an 18-wheeler stopped on the tracks.

A Union Pacific spokesperson told the Austin American-Statesman that an 18-wheeler driver was stopped in traffic in the 1100 block of the interstate’s access road. An oncoming train struck the back end of a gravel trailer at about 11 a.m. when the driver was unable to move the rig in time, the spokesperson said.

The access road was closed in both directions for about 2½ hours while crews cleared the scene at about 1:30 p.m. The train sustained minor damage, the railroad spokesperson told the newspaper.
