FROM STAFF REPORTS

AUSTIN — Police have arrested a man that chief Art Acevedo says is responsible for the “lion’s share” of a two-year scourge of rock-throwing that seriously injured at least three people on Interstate 35.

Patrick Eugene Johnson, 59, is charged so far with one count of attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony, but faces additional charges that include attempted murder, Acevedo said in a press conference this afternoon.

“Mr. Johnson’s likely going to spend the rest of his life in prison once we’re done with him,” Acevedo said.

Police have recorded more than 90 incidents of rocks thrown at vehicles in Austin since June 2014:
