The city of San Marcos’ Main Street program and the Price Center are offering western swing dance lessons during March in advance of the 24th Annual Swing on the Square festival in early April.
Lessons will be offered 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on four consecutive Monday evenings beginning March 7 at the Price Center, 222 W. San Antonio St. A $5 donation is requested.
Scheduled April 1-3 this year, Swing on the Square features three days of events and activities centered on Texas’ original Western Swing Music and the legends that helped create the genre. Featured performances include the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame Show and the Texas Playboys.
“Because Western Swing is different from traditional swing dancing, we wanted to give folks a chance to learn the moves before the festival so they can get up and dance during all the performances if they’d like,” said Mary Chadwell Seaborne, the Main Street volunteer who is heading up the lessons.
All ages and skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend the class. For information about the western swing dance lessons, call 512-392-2900 or stop by the center in downtown San Marcos.
