FROM SUBMITTED REPORTS
The Yarrington Road bridge at Interstate 35 will be closed from 5 p.m. today until 8 p.m. Sunday as part ongoing reconstruction of the overpass, which marks the boundary between far northern San Marcos and far southern Kyle.
During the bridge closure, drivers can use the FM 150/Center Street overpass to the north or the River Ridge Parkway underpass to the south to cross the interstate. Traffic on the interstate and its access roads will not be affected by the bridge work this weekend, a Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson said on Friday.
As soon as the bridge re-opens, workers will close Yarrington Road east of the interstate from 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13. Drivers can use FM 150 in Kyle to move between Interstate 35 and Texas 21.
The $15.7 million infrastructure project is replacing the existing narrow, two-lane overpass with one wide enough to include sidewalks and north- and south-bound turnaround lanes. The project also includes installation of traffic signals at Yarrington Road’s intersections with the north- and south-bound access roads.
New York-based OHL USA Inc., the state’s construction contractor for the $15.7 million overpass, began work in mid-June 2014. The project is scheduled for completion by June 2016.
