Man arrested in Arizona for murder of Sara Mutschlechner

DENTON — A man arrested in Yuma, Ariz. this morning by U.S. marshals is charged with murder in the New Years Day homicide of Sara Mutschlechner, a 20-year-old San Marcos High School alumna and former Martindale resident.

The Dallas Morning News has the story, which was announced this morning by the Denton Police Department:

U.S. marshals arrested Eric Jamal Johnson in Yuma, Arizona on a murder charge this morning, police said in a news release.

Police didn’t release any other details, and said they will hold a news conference later today to talk about the arrest.

Witnesses told police Sara Mutschlechner, a designated driver for New Year’s Eve, was shot in the head after a dark-colored or black Toyota or Lexus SUV carrying five or six men drove up next to her car.

People in the SUV exchanged words with the passengers in Mutschlechner’s vehicle, police said. As the two vehicles crossed University Drive, someone in the SUV fired multiple shots at her car.
