FROM STAFF REPORTS
Four candidates vying for two San Marcos City Council seats will debate at least twice more in the final weeks before the Nov. 3 general election:
Council of Neighborhood Associations
The San Marcos Council of Neighborhood Associations will hold its annual candidate forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 at the San Marcos City Park Recreation Hall, located at 170 Charles Austin Drive next to the Lions Club Tube Rental.
Place 5 candidates Scott Gregson and Frank Arredondo and Place 6 candidates Shane Scott and Melissa Derrick have been invited to attend. The association will hold a meet-and-greet 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. before the forum.
League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters of Hays County, formerly the San Marcos Area League of Women Voters, will hold its annual debate at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins St.
In addition to debates between the candidates, representatives will speak for and against a proposed amendment to the San Marcos City Charter. Prop. 1 would specify that city officials “shall not add, or direct or require its agents to add fluoride in the form of hydrofluorosilicic acid, hexafluorosilicic acid, or sodium silicofluoride to the San Marcos municipal water supply.”
Sam Brannon, one of the organizers of a petition drive to force a vote on the issue, will speak in favor of the proposition; dentist Corey Carothers will speak against it.
