FROM SUBMITTED REPORTS
Maintenance crews closed the north and southbound main lanes of Interstate 35 at the Blanco River in San Marcos starting beginning at 3 p.m. today for emergency repairs to a sign bridge.
Traffic will detour to the access roads at Exit 208, and proceed to the next entrance ramp. Lane closures will begin about two miles in advance in both directions. Drivers could experience significant delays, especially during the peak of late afternoon traffic.
The closure could last up to four hours, but may be completed in less time. Crews will re-open the main lanes as soon as possible.
Earlier today, a southbound vehicle ran off the road, hit a guardrail and also damaged the sign bridge support on the west side of the interstate. TxDOT engineers have determined that the sign bridge, which crosses both the north and southbound lanes, could be at risk of falling, and must be removed immediately.
Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
