Author Kim Barnes to hold readings in San Marcos, Kyle


Author Kim Barnes will visit Texas State University for a book reading and signing 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Wittliff Collections and 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center in Kyle.

The events are free and open to the public.

Barnes’ first memoir, “In the Wilderness: Coming of Age in Unknown Country,” was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, received the PEN/Jerard Fund Award and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award. Her second memoir, “Hungry for the World,” was a Borders Books New Voices selection.

Barnes is also the author of two novels: “Finding Caruso: A Country Called Home,” winner of the 2009 PEN Center USA Award in Fiction; and “In the Kingdom of Men.” Her work has appeared in several journals and anthologies, including The New York Times, WSJ online, MORE Magazine, Oprah Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Fourth Genre, The Georgia Review, Shenandoah and the Pushcart Prize anthology.

Barnes is a former Idaho Writer-in-Residence and now teaches in the Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing program at the University of Idaho.

The Burdine Johnson Foundation, the Wittliff Collections, the Lindsey Reading Series and the Texas State Department of English sponsor this event.
