Retired U.S. Marine dies in weekend motorcycle wreck on Hunter Road

A San Marcos man died Saturday evening when he was ejected from his motorcycle while trying to avoid a collision with a pickup truck on Hunter Road.

Stephen Werth, 65, was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Hunter Road at 7:36 p.m. Aug. 9 when the pickup truck’s driver pulled partially into the roadway while trying to exit San Marcos BBQ, 2601 Hunter Road.

Werth was thrown off the motorcycle, which then skidded down the asphalt and struck the truck. The truck’s occupants were not injured.

Werth was taken by ambulance to Central Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m. Werth served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 47 years including duty as a radio operator and forward observer during the Vietnam War, he said during a preface to remarks at a San Marcos City Council meeting last July.

San Marcos Police Department’s collision team began an investigation at the scene, but criminal charges have not been filed against anyone involved in the accident, city spokesperson Trey Hatt said.

That isn’t what happened. He didnt fall off the bike then the biike hit the truck. He fell with the bike got back up still on top of the bike then crashed. And that’s when he fell and slid under the truck. You have to get the story 100% correct.

What you’re saying differs from the account given by the city’s spokesperson.

He said Werth “lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected. The motorcycle skidded down the roadway and collided with the pickup.”

I’ll see if I can find out more details. If you’ll email your phone number to bradrollins@yahoo.com, I’ll call you if I still have questions what happened.
