State Comptroller Susan Combs’ office on Tuesday presented the Hays County Commissioners Court with the Leadership Circle Platinum award, the state’s highest designation for financial transparency.

“We received the Gold Leadership Circle award last year and knew that when the Comptroller’s Office upped the ante this year by creating a higher level that we wanted to reach it. Our staff came through,” county auditor Bill Herzog said.

As part of the comptroller’s Texas Transparency initiative, local governments are evaluated on how accessible and searchable they make their adopted budget, financial reports, check registers, previous years’ budgets, raw financial data and other resources.
