WIMBERLEY — A San Antonio area man was detained this morning in the 100 block of Scudder Lane near the body of a 45-year-old woman he is believed to have killed.
The lone suspect, 22-year-old Shaun Mireles, was detained at the scene and taken to an Austin area hospital to be treated for self-inflicted stab wounds, Hays County Sheriff’s Sgt. Phillip Taylor said. Mirales told deputies that he killed the woman who appeared to have been stabbed, Taylor said.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of her family. Here is the full statement from the sheriff’s office:
On March 26, 2014, at approximately 8:15 am, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from an area resident reporting the discovery of an unresponsive female found in the area of the 100 block of Scudder Lane in Wimberley, Texas.
The caller advised that the female had suffered traumatic injuries including a possible stab wound. Officers discovered the 45 year old female was deceased. Deputies also located a male subject on scene that had injuries consistent with a stab wound. The male subject confessed to killing the female. The subject was identified as Shaun Mireles (White/Male, Date of Birth: 01-19-1992).
Mireles was detained and transported to an Austin area hospital for treatment of self-inflicted stab wounds. Mireles has a criminal history involving misdemeanor offenses. There is no update on Mireles’ condition available at this time. Both subjects are residents of the San Antonio area.
The victim’s identity will be released once the next of kin has been notified.
This case is still under investigation. The sheriff’s office is confident that there are no other subjects involved in this incident and no other suspects are being sought at this time.
