The San Marcos Manufacturer’s Association and Central Texas Medical Center raised $9,136 for local scholarships last month with their Gear Up 10-Mile Run at Tanger Outlet Center.
Deadline for CTMC scholarships quickly approaching
The deadline for local students to apply for one of ten $1,000 scholarships underwritten by Central Texas Medical Center is Thursday, March 20.
“We look forward to rewarding deserving students again this year with funds that will help them in their college career,” said Clay DeStefano, the medical center’s public relations and marketing administrative director.
Applications must be delivered to CTMC, 1301 Wonder World Drive, or postmarked by the deadline. Download the application here.

“It feels good to give back to the community, and we feel this run has not only brought runners together but also our local businesses and community,” said Mensor Corp. president Lee Graham, the event’s coordinator, said in a statement. “With the higher costs of education, SMMA wants to increase scholarship awards to further assist students in covering these costs. Many students will graduate from a university and have a debt burden that will take years to pay off.”
Seventy-seven runners registered for in Gear Up this year, nearly double last year’s participation.
The winner in the mens’ bracket was Richard Powell of San Marcos, who completed the 10-mile course in 55:36; the winner in the womens’ bracket was Diana Ruderman of Helotes with a time of 1:15:36.
