“It is not surprising that Republicans are still trying to get rid of me, it is a little surprising that they selected Susan Narvaiz again. If she does return from New Mexico, I hope we can again both run respectful, positive campaigns as we did two years ago. I will focus on educational opportunity, investment to encourage economic growth, immigration reform, and retirement security for our seniors and veterans,” Doggett said.

12:52 p.m. DEC. 10: Four months after saying publicly that she was moving to New Mexico, former San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz is making a second run for the 35th Congressional District represented by U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, according to state election filings.

In August, Narvaiz sold her home on Parkview Lane on San Marcos’ east side and told the San Marcos Mercury that she was re-locating to Carlsbad, N.M. where she was fielding job offers.

But Narvaiz’s name is listed this morning on the Texas Secretary of State’s website as the lone Republican candidate for CD-35, which stretches from east Austin down Interstate 35 to south San Antonio. The deadline to file paperwork to run in next March’s party primaries was Monday.

“I would assume it’s a mistake. If she was going to run, I assume I would have heard something,” Hays County County Judge Bert Cobb said of his fellow Republican.

Narvaiz did not immediately return voice mail left on her cell phone late this morning.
