Created by percussion virtuoso Gregory Kozak and architecture-trained designer muse Justine Murdy in 1998, Scrap Arts Music brings a multi-disciplinary approach to shows, sporting a fascination with vernacular design and material culture studies fused with musical training in Afro-Cuban jazz, piano composition, world percussion, contemporary classical music, North Indian raga, modern dance, and West African drum and dance.
Accompanied by Spencer Cole, Christa Mercey, Greg Samek and Malcolm Shoolbraid, Scrap Arts Music excites the senses with intricate rhythms, raw energy, athletic choreography and the most beautifully inventive instruments on stage today.
Transcending language, culture and age, Scrap Arts Music offers a highly physical, wildly theatrical and thoroughly entertaining pop percussion experience. Rooted in street performance, jazz-plus-world music traditions, and fueled by the same inexplicable creativity that produced projects like Blue Man Group and Stomp, Scrap Arts Music has travelled the world since 2001, delivering trade-mark high-energy performances across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, United Kingdom, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, Korea, Taiwan and Guatemala.
In 2010, Scrap Arts Music was invited to perform during the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
