The Texas State volleyball team claimed sole possession of third place in the Sun Belt Conference Friday night, winning a three-set match at Louisiana-Monroe (ULM), which was eliminated from postseason play.
The scores were 25-20, 25-13, 25-15.
Texas State’s Caylin Mahoney averaged 10 assists per set, finishing with 30 assists and 13 digs for the double-double. She also had two block assists and six kills without an error for a .462 hitting percentage.
The Bobcats finished the night with a .299 team hitting percentage, compared with .092 for ULM. Mahoney distributed the ball pretty evenly. Amari Deardorff led the Bobcats with nine kills, while Ashlee Hilbun, Shelby Vas Matt and Alexandra Simms all had seven kills each.
As usual, libero Sierra Smith led the team in digs with 14, while Mahoney had 13. At the net, Texas State outblocked the Warhawks, 6.5 to 3.
The Bobcats now are 19-11 overall and 9-6 in the Sun Belt. Right behind the Bobcats is Louisiana-Lafayette (ULL) at 8-7. The Bobcats will play at ULL Sunday (1 p.m.).
