A daily rundown of live entertainment in and around San Marcos tonight, compiled by Mercury Scene Editor Hap Mansfield and our content partners at San Marcos Tonight.
Playwright/actor Sam Shepard and his friend, Johnny Dark have a long and tumultuous friendship which started almost 50 years ago in Greenwich Village and is documented through hundreds of letters. Familial ties, competitive squabbles and life-style differences all come to light as well as genuine affection. When Shepard decided to donate more of his letters and papers to Texas State’s Wittliff Collections filmmaker Treva Wurmfeld documented the friends’ reflections as they sifted through their years of correspondence. The Wittliff has been curating and displaying these letters and tonight the film, Shepard and Dark, will be shown there at 7 p.m. as part of the Shepard exhibition. Director Wurmfeld will be on-hand at the screening to speak and answer questions about her highly lauded, Joanne Woodward-produced documentary.
