Texas State notched its first win against Baylor in more than two years and its first win against the Bears in San Marcos in more than eight years Tuesday night, prevailing, 3-0, at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats last beat Baylor on March 1, 2011, and they last defeated the Bears in San Marcos on March 22, 2005.

Six Texas State pitchers combined to allow Baylor only three hits. Mitchell Pitts started, allowed one hit in three innings and picked up the win, improving his record to 1-3. Austen Williams, Covey Morrow, Lucas Humpal, Donnie Hart and Hunter Lemke followed with shorter, shutout relief appearances. Lemke pitched the final inning for his sixth save of the season.

“We relieved well, and they did their thing the rest of the way pitching-wise,” Texas State coach Ty Harrington said. “I’m very proud of the pitching. It was fun to watch us play defense. It was fun to watch us pitch tonight.”

Andrew Stumph put Texas State on the board in the first inning with a one-out single, knocking in Kevin Sah from third base. In the third inning, Cody Lovejoy socked a two-run homer, the first of his collegiate career.

The Bobcats now are 16-20. Baylor is 19-18.

The Bobcats go to San Jose State this weekend for a three-game series in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
