The Texas State women’s basketball team goes to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament today on a high note after putting up 100 against San Jose State Saturday in its regular season finale at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats, at 4-14 in the WAC and 10-19 overall, still go to the league tournament as the bottom seed, the position from which it will take on No. 7 Denver at 2 p.m. in the tournament opener this afternoon. Denver is 8-10 and 13-16.
The Bobcats assembled their best offensive performance of the season in their 100-67 win against San Jose State. It was the first time Texas State scored 100 against a Division I opponent since 1988 against Texas-Pan American.
Texas State took command against San Jose State with a 19-4 run to a 22-8 lead with 13:20 left in the first half. It was all downhill from there. Building on a 49-34 halftime lead, the Bobcats extended it to 37, their largest lead, at 95-58 with 2:36 left.
Diamond Ford led the Bobcats with 25 points, followed by Ashley Ezeh with 23. Ford, a senior playing her last game at Strahan Coliseum, also had six assists and seven steals. She moved up to third place in the Texas State single-season and career scoring lists with 617 points and 1,877 points, respectively.
