Texas State women’s basketball signee Kaitlin Walla was named the Texas State 4A Tournament MVP last weekend after leading Georgetown High School to the state championship over Dallas Lincoln, 65-60, at the Erwin Center in Austin.
Georgetown trailed 55-48 in the fourth quarter before Walla scored 11 points in Georgetown’s 17-5 run to close the game. Walla finished with 26 points to go with six assists and seven rebounds and two steals. Walla scored 43 points in her two tournament games, leading all scorers at the state tournament. Only five players scored more than 40 points at the tournament among all divisions.
Last year, current Texas State freshman Erin Peoples was named the Arkansas Class 6A State Tournament MVP after scoring 20 points and eight rebounds along with five steals. The year before, Texas State’s Ayriel Anderson was named to the 5A All-Tournament team after her Irving MacArthur team beat Walla’s Georgetown team in the state championship game. Anderson scored 22 points in the title game, during which Walla had 12 points and three rebounds.
The Bobcats are 9-18, tied for last place in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) at 3-13.
