Bobcats softball team loses fifth straight

The Texas State softball team will try to end a five-game losing streak today as it closes the Texas Shootout at Bobcat Field with a game against Texas-Arlington (UTA).

The Bobcats have lost the first four games of the shootout, including a 9-6 loss to Sam Houston State Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats also lost 1-0 to North Texas, 10-2 to Baylor and 6-1 to Texas Tech in the meet.

Texas State is 2-11 early in the season. Its only wins both came against Mississippi Valley State last weekend at the Louisiana Classic. The Bobcats lost both games they played in that tournament against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Down, 5-2, against Sam Houston State going to the bottom of the fifth Saturday, the Bobcats scored three times to tie the game. The big blow was a two-run homer by Delia Saucedo. Later in the inning, Kellie Baker tied the game, 5-5, with an RBI single.

However, Sam Houston scored four times in the top of the eighth inning to secure the win.

Texas State now is 2-11. Sam Houston State is 6-9. Game time for the Bobcats today against UTA is 3 p.m.
