The Texas State women’s basketball team had the three-point shot working Saturday at Strahan Coliseum and knocked off Louisiana Tech, 68-63.
The Bobcats made eight of 22 from long range to offset an otherwise mediocre shooting performance of 25 for 61 (41 percent). During the first half, Texas State made six of 15 three-pointers (40 percent).
Five of them came in a five-minute stretch during which the Bobcats did a 19-2 run to take a 29-19 lead. Four different Texas State players made threes during the run, with Jasmine Baugus hitting two of them.
The Bobcats took a 35-24 lead at halftime and maintained their advantage through the second half.
Diamond Ford led the Bobcats with 16 points, followed by Baugus with 14. Louisiana Tech’s Kelia Shelton scored 22 points to lead all scorers.
The Bobcats improved to 3-10 in the WAC and 9-14 overall with the win. Louisiana Tech is 7-5 and 11-12.
Texas State plays again next Saturday at Texas-San Antonio (4 p.m.).
