No one in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) has been able to take down the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team, and Texas State couldn’t do it Saturday on the road.
Louisiana Tech started slowly, falling eight points behind the Bobcats 8:29 into the game, then zoomed ahead to a 36-29 halftime lead on its way to a solid 84-69 victory.
The win improved Louisiana Tech’s record to 12-0 in the WAC and 21-3 overall, while the Bobcats fell to 3-10 and 7-18.
Louisiana Tech is ranked No. 45 in the RPI ratings, the best in the WAC, followed by New Mexico State at No. 76. At No. 45, Louisiana Tech figures to be a bubble team for an NCAA Tournament bid if it doesn’t win the conference tournament, meaning the WAC shapes up as a one-bid league if Louisiana Tech does win it.
Raheem Appleby scored 21 points for Louisiana Tech, leading all scorers. Joel Wright led Texas State with 13 points.
The Bobcats return home next Saturday to play Texas-San Antonio (4 p.m.).
