Bobcat women fall in overtime at home

Chauntandr Williams made a layup with three seconds left in overtime Thursday night, giving Texas-Arlington (UTA) a 73-72 women’s basketball win against Texas State at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats, who defeated UTA, 63-57, on the road on Jan. 12, fell to 2-10 in the Western Athletic Conference and 8-14 overall. UTA won its first league game of the year, improving to 1-9 and 3-17.

The Bobcats held a 40-30 halftime lead, but UTA came back to a 50-50 tie with 9:36 left. The game remained close for the duration. Erin Peoples made a layup with 17 seconds remaining in regulation time to give the Bobcats a 65-63 lead, but Williams returned the layup for UTA with three seconds left, making it a 65-65 game and forcing overtime.

Diamond Ford scored 26 points for Texas State, leading all scorers. Laila Suleiman scored 15 to lead UTA.

The Bobcats are back at home Saturday (2 p.m.) for their annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness against Louisiana Tech.
