Cyclist critically injured in collision with car


A 57-year old San Marcos bicycle rider is in critical condition at University Medical Center at Brackenridge in Austin after he was struck by a vehicle on Texas 123 near Monterrey Oaks Drive in San Marcos at about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and called 9-1-1. He told police that he was inbound on Texas 123 and did not see the cyclist until after the impact. The cyclist was transported by EMS to Brackenridge Hospital.

The police did not immediately release the cyclist’s name.

The San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team is continuing its investigation.

  1. This town is plain scary to ride a bike in. Definitely the worst place to bike commute I’ve ever lived. Aquarena is a death sentence on two wheels.

  2. Agreed james. Much has been spake but little done to improve it. I would love to hear the rational for the way Thorpe was recently re-striped. They have done 2 lanes north, one lane south and a center turn lane. No bike lanes. But they painted bike logos in the car lanes. I guess if you’re a car you’re supposed to see that and understand that you may be sharing this lane with a bike. I just don’t believe that’s going to work.
