U.S. Marshals arrest Hays County rape, stabbing suspect

From the Hays County Sheriff’s Office:

On Thursday, March 15, 2012 at approximately 9:45 am, a black male was able to coax a 17-year old girl into his white SUV-type vehicle. He lured the girl into the vehicle near a Metro Bus Stop located in the area of 51st Street and Manor Road in Austin, Travis County, Texas.

He drove her to an isolated area in Dripping Springs and sexually assaulted her. When he realized she might be able to identify him, he took drastic steps. The suspect repeatedly stabbed the girl leaving her for dead. She was able to stumble towards the sound of traffic to find help.

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler announced today that the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division had warrants issued for Willie Griffin (12-03-1965), for the offenses of Attempted Capital Murder, Aggravated Sexual Assault, and Aggravated Kidnapping. Griffin is currently in custody in Escambia County, Florida on a Parole Violation warrant from Texas Pardons and Paroles. Griffin was arrested by the United States Marshal’s Service in Pensacola, Florida. Hays County officials are now preparing the extradition process to have Griffin returned to Hays County to face the new charges.

Sheriff Cutler would like to extend his thanks and gratitude to the media for their assistance in this case, along with the Texas Rangers, United States Marshal’s Service, Austin Police Department, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, and Hays County Crime Stoppers for their involvement.
