Steven Lawrence ‘Rob’ Robinson, 1952-2012

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, for Steven Lawrence “Rob” Robinson of San Marcos, who passed away suddenly in his home, at the age of 59.

He leaves behind a loving wife, Shirley Ann, and his father and mother-in-law, John and Helen Betty Osborne of Austin.

He is also mourned by his brother-in-law Bruce Osborne, and his wife Linda of San Antonio.

Rob is also missed by his niece Tiffany Schnuriger, her husband James and their daughter Lilly of Laf-ayette, La., and his nephews Beau Osborne, his wife Karen and their son, Jacob of Austin, and Lieutenant Commander Tim Osborne, United States Navy.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents “Biff” and Ollie Robinson. Shirley’s extended Osborne family shares in the loss of Rob.

Rob was born at Lackland AFB in San Antonio on May 7, 1952. His father served in the Air Force, and Rob lived in Germany, Colorado, and North Carolina until his family returned to San Antonio. Rob graduated from John Jay High School and attended San Antonio College. He met Shirley Ann while she was attending SWTSU, and to be closer to her, he relocated to San Marcos in 1983 and opened the Hill Country Humidor in 1986.

Rob was past president of the Downtown Association and served on numerous city boards. He and Shirley Ann enjoyed volunteering together in the community with the Chilympiad Organization, and Rob was a sponsor for many downtown festivals such as “The Great Race” and the “Western Swing Hall of Fame Induction.”  Rob loved music and played a variety of instruments. He was an avid reader of history, politics, freedom and rights. He enjoyed touring the country on his motorcycle, riding bicycles throughout our community and traveling in the RV with Shirley Ann.

His numerous friends, along with his beloved cats, cherish his memory and will miss him dearly. For information regarding the time and location for the celebration of Rob’s life, please visit

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice or to the Rob Robinson Fund, c/o the San Marcos Police Department, 2300 IH35 South, San Marcos, Texas, 78666.

Rob had numerous friends in law enforcement and appreciated their support and protection of the downtown area. The funds will be used for supporting “at risk” youth and the Downtown Police patrol.
