Black lawyer who defended Klan grand master to speak on campus

Anthony Griffin

Noted civil rights attorney Anthony Griffin will share his stories and experiences defending first amendment rights during a free event in the Alkek Teaching Theater on the Texas State University campus. The event, open to the public, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Griffin has attributed some of his concern for equal protection and due process rights to his early childhood experiences as an African-American raised in an integrated yet troubled town. His most noted cases have involved his defense of the First Amendment rights of a grand master of the Ku Klux Klan, in addition to his lead on a case challenging prayer at public school football games.
