Texas State University’s Orchesis will be joined by guest performers next week to offer a unique live dance and visual art experience.
Orchesis, a student-led modern dance company at Texas State, is producing a dance showcase featuring its members along with a performance by guest artists–dancer Samantha Beasley and visualist Topher Sipes of ARTheism.
The event, entitled “Against the Grain,” will be Feb. 9 and Feb. 10 in the Texas State Evans Liberal Arts Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students/Texas State staff and $10 for others. Only cash will be accepted.
Orchesis was established to provide dancers opportunities to challenge their creativity and broaden their view of art. It has two regular spring performances: “Dancers In Flight” and “Sideshow.” In the off-season, Orchesis hosts master classes by guest artists, with topics and styles ranging from musical theatre, ballet, hip-hop, flamenco, yoga, and African drum. Orchesis also conducts volunteer activities and sponsors scholarships. Orchesis holds auditions in the fall.
Beasley and Sipes are Texas State alumni and San Marcos residents. Their work blurs the lines between performance, animation, conceptual, theatre, visionary and fine art by combining real time, interactive, projected animation onto the canvas of a dancing body.Email | Print
