Three members of the San Marcos High School Speech & Debate Team swept all three top honors in Extemporaneous Speaking this past weekend at Round Rock High School.

Junior James Dix captured the tournament championship in the event, followed by sophomores Gino Occhialini and Dino Occhialini, who took second and third, respectively.

In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, sophomore Sierra Rowe made the quarterfinal round and freshman Alexis Kulik took third place overall.

In the senior division of LD Debate, senior Cameron Herber posted a 4-1 record and reached the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Sophomore Emmy Hale also made a finals appearance, winning fifth place in Poetry Interpretation.

The team will go to Clark High School in San Antonio and La Vernia High School over the next two weeks in their final preparations for District competitions.

  1. GO SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM!! CONGRATS!! To bad our school district is still in the dark ages and only cares about funding football teams to the hilt. This is an activity that PREPARES our youth for the job market and all aspects of life. Can’t say that for football.

    Go Speechies Go!!!
