A fire destroyed a 1,000 square-foot wood-frame home on Miller Trace Road Tuesday evening and caused about $50,000 in property damage, according to city officials.

The sole occupant of the home was away at work during the blaze. The fire killed one of two cats living in the house, but firefighters resuscitated the other one. Both animals were transported to the San Marcos Animal Shelter.

The blaze, reported at around 7:45 p.m, was quickly extinguished by San Marcos firefighters before it could spread to adjoining houses and property. San Marcos Fire Marshal Ken Bell is investigating the incident.
