Police arrested a suspected prostitute in San Marcos this week.
A man called SMPD Thursday afternoon and said a woman in the Victory Gardens neighborhood offered him sex for $20 earlier that day.
After police were dispatched to the neighborhood, they located a woman near the corner of Jones and Knox Streets. The complainant arrived at the scene and positively identified her as 39-year-old Christina Barajas, and after further investigation, police arrested her.
SMPD Sergeant David Waugh said an arrest for prostitution is a “relatively infrequent” occurrence in San Marcos.
Barajas, who has a San Marcos address, remains in custody at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center on a $5,000 bond.
Because Barajas has two previous convictions for prostitution, her Thursday charge is a Class A misdemeanor rather than a Class B misdemeanor. A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine not to exceed $4,000, or confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year, or both.
Police had arrested Barajas for public intoxication the day before.
