Police identify pedestrian killed on Texas 123


San Marcos police have identified the man who was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian collision Tuesday night as 67-year-old San Marcos resident Juan Quiroz Gonzalez.

A native of Mexico, Gonzalez was walking in the southbound lane of the roadway and possibly attempting to cross when he was struck by a vehicle about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The car that hit him was travelling southbound in the 1100 block of State Highwa 123 behind another vehicle. The first vehicle swerved to avoid striking Gonzalez, but the driver of the second was unable to avoid colliding with the victim.

The driver of the second vehicle stopped at the scene and called 9-1-1. Justice of the Peace JoAnne Prado pronounced Gonzalez dead at the scene.

Tureaud said police do not anticipate filing charges, though he asks witnesses to contact him at (512) 754-2214.

  1. We try to identify where people are from. If he’d been from Seguin, we would have said “of Seguin.” Saying he was a native of Mexico differentiates him from local Gonzalez families. It also suggests that it might take longer than normal for police to contact next of kin.
