Hays County Brown Santa volunteers on Saturday delivered toys, ham, milk, bread, canned goods, and fruit to more than 460 families in need throughout Hays County, said Sheriff’s Office officials.

More than 200 volunteers participated in this year’s effort, which was administered by the Sheriff’s Office, said Brown Santa coordinator Dennis Gutierrez. Sheriff Gary Cutler expressed his gratitude to the volunteers, some of whom have participated in the program for 10-12 years.

Foster families, Child Protective Services, and the women’s and children’s shelters were among those assisted by the program, Gutierrez said.

“The program was able to help over 610 families this Christmas season,” Gutierrez said.
