San Marcos residents who plan on traveling for the holidays may use the Holiday/Community House Watch program offered by the San Marcos Police Department and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
Volunteers who have graduated from the Citizens Police Academy have taken additional training to provide special patrols at the request of residents who will be out of town during the holidays. The volunteer house watchers will report any suspicious activity or property damage to the police.
“The volunteers are trained to report suspicious activity as soon as they observe it, but their presence in the neighborhood is meant to prevent property crime from occurring in the first place,” said SMPD Crime Prevention Officer Daniel Arredondo. “This is a very effective crime prevention tool that offers our citizens some peace of mind over the holidays.”
Residents interested in the free service must submit an application to SMPD. Applications are available at SMPD’s headquarters at 2300 IH 35 South
