Several San Marcos Academy Bears have been named to the Sports Marketing Experts.Com Bowl. Seniors Aubrey Oswalt, Richard Smith, Cody Watson, and Shane Boyer have been selected for this month’s game in Sugarland.
The game, which will be played at Fort Bend Christian in Sugarland, is scheduled for a 8 p.m. kickoff on Saturday Dec 10. Days before the game, student-athletes from across the state will engage in a variety of activities ranging from community outreach at Shriners Hospital to entertainment at the Houston Aeros hockey game.
Oswalt collected four interceptions and nineteen tackles with a 53-yard interception returned for a touchdown versus TSD. Smith led the Bears with 80 tackles and 4 sacks in 2011. Boyer added 45 tackles and was a team inspirational leader for SMA. Watson had 45 tackles and 3 sacks from the defensive end position this season.
The bowl was started in 1996 and played under the name “The Bayou Bowl” at Rice Stadium. The game was later picked up by the Greater Houston Private School Coaches’ Association as the All-Star Football Classic until 2003.
The board decided to revive the game this year and to build it into a first class annual event. Honorary Coaches are being lined up for this special event, including former NFL and NCAA Head Coaches.
SMA Senior Richard Smith said, “I’m excited to play, glad all the hard work has paid off and I look forward to meeting some high caliber athletes and put on a show.”Email | Print
