Update: Sheriff’s office identifies gunshot victims


The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people found fatally shot at a home yesterday in the Turkey Hollow neighborhood in San Marcos.

They are Jonathan Opfer, 34, and Aurora Bensko-Tarsitano, 29. Both died from gunshot wounds, Lt. Dennie Gutierrez said, but investigators aren’t saying anything else about case.

Opfer was found dead in the backyard of a home in the 2900 block of Philo Street when officers arrived at about 12:30 p.m. yesterday after a neighbor heard shots and called police. Bensko-Tarsitano was taken to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin where she was pronounced dead

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Joanne Prado has ordered autopsies. Investigators ask anyone with information to call them at 512-393-7896.


UPDATE 3 p.m. OCT. 28: The female involved in this incident is deceased, according to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. Police will release the names of the deceased individuals after next of kin are notified.


Hays County Sheriff’s Office personnel are investigating a double shooting they say occurred on the 2900 block of Philo Street in San Marcos.

A 34-year-old male was found dead at the scene and a 28-year-old female was transported to Brackenridge Hospital in an unknown condition.

“It has not been determined what the relationship was between the two, but they did reside at the residence with two other people,” said Lt. Dennis Gutierrez of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.

Criminal investigators are on the scene and no further details have been released at this time.
