Many construction projects to affect traffic in San Marcos this week

The following is the list of construction projects affecting traffic for the week of July 17 to July 23. The information was released by San Marcos city officials.

Cheatham Street: The portion of Cheatham Street from Hopkins Street to the Sycamore/Haynes intersection will be closed from July 18 until the end of July for water line installation. The city will detour Cheatham Street traffic from Hopkins to the Interstate 35 west access road, to Rio Vista Drive, Roberts Street, or Riverside Drive. Residents may access Cheatham Street from C.M. Parkway and by way of Riverside Drive from Hopkins.

From 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until mid August, the portion of the 900-1000 block of Cheatham Street, between Field Street and Sycamore Street, that ends before the intersection of Rio Vista Street, will be closed for the installation of reinforced concrete pipe and a junction box. The city will detour Motorists to Haynes Street and Riverside Drive. Call the City of San Marcos Capital Improvements Department at (512) 393-8130.

Sycamore Street: The 900-1000 block will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until July 31 for the installation of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, and for roadway excavation and installation of junction boxes. Motorists will be detoured to Rio Vista Street and Cheatham Street. Call the City of San Marcos Capital Improvements Department at (512) 393-8130.

McKinnon Street: From 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until July 31, the 300-400 block between Field Street and Sycamore Street will be closed for the installation of sewer lines and a junction box. The intersections of Cheatham Street and Sycamore Street will be closed at various times during construction. Motorists will be detoured to Rio Vista Street and Haynes Street. Field Street: From 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until the end of July, the 900 block between Cheatham Street and McKinnon Street will be closed for roadway excavation, relocation of fire hydrants, sub-grade preparation, the installation of the first course of base paving near the McKinnon Street intersection, and the installation of storm drain pipe and curb inlets near the Cheatham Street intersection. Motorists will be detoured to Haynes Street. Call the City of San Marcos Capital Improvements Department at (512) 393-8130.

Posey Road: On July 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the road will be closed from IH 35 to Hunter Road for the installation of speed tables. Motorists will need to take alternate routes on Centerpoint Road or McCarty Lane to avoid the closure. Call the Hays County Road Department at (512) 393-7385.

East McCarty Lane: Landscape and maintenance crews will be operating along the project limits. Until September, motorists may anticipate slow moving vehicles in lanes, mowers in the median and on the roadside, and interrupted use of sidewalks during watering and/or mowing operations. Mill Street: The 1900 block at Telluride Street will be closed for valley gutter construction from July 23 at 6 a.m. until July 25 at 7 a.m. Motorists will be detoured to Uhland Road and the Interstate 35 access road. Call the City of San Marcos Public Services Department at (512) 393-8036.

Viola Street: From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until mid August, the 700 block will be closed to through-traffic from Alto Street to Serur Street, for valley gutter construction. Motorists will be detoured to Browne Terrace, Burleson Street, Scott Street and Rogers Street. Call the City of San Marcos Public Services Department at (512) 393-8036.

Serur Street: Until the end of July, the 500 block from Viola Street to Rogers Street will be under construction. The street will be open during construction, though motorists must watch for flaggers and heavy equipment. Call the City of San Marcos Public Services Department at (512) 393-8036.

North Edward Gary Street: The street and east and west side sidewalks will be closed from University Drive to Woods Street until August 2012. Call the Texas State University Finance and Support Services Office at (512) 245-2244.

Moon Street: The west sidewalk will be closed from University Drive to Concho Green until September 2013. Call the Texas State University Finance and Support Services Office at (512) 245-2244.

Riverwalk Loop: Nash Lane, Riverway Avenue and Cotter Avenue, near the location of Chuck Nash auto dealership, will be used for Hays Consolidated Independent School District (HCISD) and Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) bus training until July 18, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call HCISD at (512) 268-2141.

State Highway 80: From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., the 900-1500 block between Interstate 35 access road and Military Drive will sustain various lane closures in the evening for milling and inlay of hot mix. All road work will be performed at night with a lane open in each direction. The road will be open to traffic during the day. Call the Texas Department of Transportation at (512) 353-1061.

East San Antonio Street: Half of the 100 block will be closed from the alley to North LBJ every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Farmers Market on the Square. Call the San Marcos Main Street Program at (512) 393-8430.
