Hays County Judge Bert Cobb lifted a months-long burn ban today but says it’s likely to be reinstated in a week.
Higher humidity, calmer winds and greener grasses make it less likely that outside fires will spread out of control, Fire Marshal Mark Chambers said. The commissioners court will re-evaluate the ban on April 4.
“Our fire departments around the county, who are prime advisors on burn ban recommendations, feel comfortable that this week is the best one we’ve had in a long time to allow residents to get rid of brush that has piled up,” Chambers said.
The commissioners court recently gave the county judge the authority to lift burn bans temporarily when weather conditions permit. A ban has been in place since Dec. 21.
