Texas State Representatives Sylvester Turner will speak on Jan. 20 at Texas State.

Texas State will hold a march in honor of Martin Luther King on Jan. 20 starting at 6:30 p.m. The march will begin at Old Main and will finish at the LBJ Student Center, where a keynote speech will be delivered by Texas State Representative Sylvester Turner (D-Houston) at 7 p.m.
Turner, a Houston attorney, has been a member of the Texas State House of Representatives since 1988. He is currently serving as a member of the State Affairs Committee, Business and Industry Committee, Criminal Justice Legislative Oversight Committee and is also serving as Chair of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and Co-Chair of the Harris County Legislative Delegation.
Turner attended the University of Houston and Harvard Law School. His daughter, Paige, is a graduate student at Texas Women’s University in Houston.
Texas State alds will hold a poetry slam as part of its commemorative celebration of Martin Luther King. The event will be held in the LBJ Student Ballroom on Jan. 19 from 5:30-8 p.m.
