PALS to sponsor pet food drive

Prevent a Litter Society (PALS) of Central Texas will hold a Pet Food Drive at Half Price Books, 900 Bugg Lane, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants should drop off pet food at Half Price Books to volunteers who will collect the food and distribute it to those who cannot afford to feed their pets.

Member of PALS hope that the pet food pantry distribution will allow economically stressed families to keep their pets instead of surrendering them to already over-burdened shelters.

PALS is interested in getting volunteers for every aspect of their work, from collecting food to identifying and screening clients to  transporting food to writing grants to help fund the project.

Those interested in volunteering may call (512) 754-7257 and leave a message.

PALS representatives said that it is hoped that the event at Half Price Books also will generate public awareness for the needs of animals and promote responsible pet guardianship.

PALS is a non-profit organization with a mission of helping to end pet over-population and homelessness in Central Texas. PALS distributes free sterilization vouchers to residents of Hays County and the surrounding counties who cannot afford to fix their pets.
