Gray Horse Saloon to host benefit for Sean Wilkerson family

Matt Begley and Bitter Whiskey will perform at a benefit for the family of Sean Wilkerson on Nov. 22.

On the evening of Nov. 22, the Gray Horse Saloon, 1904 RR12, will host a benefit for the family of musician and San Marcos resident Sean Wilkerson. A $5 donation will be taken at the door but is not required for entry.

Starting at 5 p.m. there will be $5 barbecue plates and a silent auction.

Wilkerson, 24, passed away on Oct. 24 from head injuries sustained in a skateboarding accident. He attended San Marcos High School, where he played for the football team and was the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After graduating in 2004, he attended the University of Texas-San Antonio. He was a member of the popular local bluegrass bands Sasquatch Holler and Smoky Hill String Band, and a much loved member of the San Marcos music community.

Headlining the bill will be Matt Begley and Bitter Whiskey, but many more musicians are expected to play a few songs in tribute to Wilkerson including Bo Cox, Andy Bertelsen, Michael Kelton, Mark Von Diehl, Smoky Hill String Band, Crystal Creek Boys, Firewater Sermon, David Beck, Robbie and the Robots and some special guests. The music will start up at 8 p.m.
