Schools in San Marcos CISD received a total of eight Gold Performance Acknowledgments (GPAs) in updated Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability reports released on Nov. 3. In recognition of their achievements, the San Marcos CISD Board of Trustees honored the schools and their principals at this week’s school board meeting.

Bowie Elementary School Principal Karen McGowan and Travis Elementary School Principal Niki Konecki were honored for Commended Performance on TAKS. Bowie earned two GPAs for math and science and Travis earned one GPA in science.

Goodnight Middle School Assistant Principal Beverly Smith accepted the certificate on behalf of the school for earning two GPAs for Comparable Improvement in both reading and English language arts.

San Marcos CISD and San Marcos High School were awarded GPAs for the percentage of graduates in the Recommended High School Program Class of 2009. Principal Michelle Darling accepted the certificate for San Marcos High School and Superintendent Dr. Patty Shafer accepted for the district.

When the schools were notified of their GPAs, Shafer said, “We’re proud of the accomplishments of students and faculty. We continue to receive Gold Performance Acknowledgements even as more of our students take more rigorous tests.  The GPAs for Commended Performance in science highlight the progress being made in that content area.”
