The city of San Marcos has rescheduled the opening of McCarty Lane to mid-December due to construction issues and material supply delays.
“Delay in completion of the bridge over Cottonwood Creek led to the postponement of the opening originally scheduled for November 13,” said Interim City Manager Laurie Moyer. “Since the beginning of the project, bridge construction has been the critical element in determining the opening date.”
The one mile McCarty Lane widening and reconstruction project east of the San Marcos Conference Center toward old Bastrop Highway began in April 2010 in order to provide safer mobility from Interstate 35 to San Marcos High School and surrounding areas.
This portion of McCarty is being transformed into an urban four-lane roadway with raised medians, a 330 foot bridge over Cottonwood Creek, curbs and gutter, illumination, landscaping and a ten-foot bike and pedestrian sidewalk on the north side of the road.
Texas Sterling Construction Company of Austin is the project contractor with engineering provided by KBR, Inc. of Austin.
