Riley’s Tavern, 8894 FM 1102, will serve barbecue and sponsor a poker run for the Kevin L. Shimek Scholarship Fund Saturday.
Riley’s Tavern will hold a poker, run and barbecue fundraiser Saturday for the Kevin L. Shimek Memorial Scholarship Fund. The day will feature live music, an auction, a raffle, karaoke and other activities throughout the day from 1-9 p.m.
The poker run will hold registration from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The registration fee is $30. The fee includes a barbecue plate and run map. Cash prizes will be awarded with first place receiving $300, second place $150 and 3rd place $50. The first bike out will be upon registration with the last bike in by 6 p.m.
The auction items include a trip to Costa Rica, round trip Southwest air tickets, Harley gear, jewelry, wine baskets, dinners and more.
Barbecue plates will be served from 1-3 p.m. and again from 5-7 p.m. Tickets for the barbecue are 10$ and may be purchased on site.
Memorial t-shirts, wristbands. bandanas, decals, magnets and guitar picks will also be on sale.
Live music at the event will include Crossing Tyler, Grant Mazak, No Vacancy and Robb Rodriguez and the Killa Hoggs.
All proceeds (with the exception of bar drinks) will fund the Kevin Shimek Memorial Scholarship at Texas State.
Donations may also be made to Texas State University, Attn: Donor Relations, JCK 480, 601 University Drive, San Marcos, TX, 78666. The words “Kevin L. Shinel Memorial Scholarship” should be placed on the memo line of the check.
Kevin Shimek was a student at Texas State and a member of the Texas State Water Ski Team whose life was cut short in a car accident in 2009. He was in his final year at Texas State majoring in Criminal Justice.
