Letters to the editor: Shame on San Marcos

To the editor,

It is always a sad time when elections come around that some people start trying to distort facts to benefit a losing candidate.

The McCoy family has been one of the greatest happenings in Central Texas. John Thomaides knows this and he would do nothing to distract from their well being, as has been presented by his opponent. It is a shame the real truth and facts are not presented by some of our “so called” city leaders, who are scared of losing power to control and use the city for their own benefit.

By the way, who is going to pay off all these bonds and so called “short-term” notes our mayor has signed for some of these personally acclaimed projects?

The “railroad show” is over, people – now it is the time to get to work.  Let San Marcos be for all of our citizens and friends, not just a few.

I have always stood behind our police and fire department having a fair wage and good equipment, and John Thomaides has, too. Truly look at the facts and go get the record and compare what John has really done and not just take lines from the text of a political advertisement.

Give John Thomaides, Toby Hooper and David Newman a chance to show you what they can do.

Sincerely,
Ted Breihan
San Marcos

To the editor,

It is difficult to carry on when the most interest in the failed San Marcosw school district has to do with the ability of the football coach.

It is difficult to carry on when Daniel accuses John of supporting lap dancing and encouraging pedophilia.

It is difficult to carry on when city employees (firemen) are allowed to influence a city election with untruths to further their personal finances.

It is difficult to carry on when a candidate for mayor of San Marcos accepts the ill conceived support of those city employees, knowing they will be asked for something in return.

It is difficult to carry on when city code enforcement employees become a police force that harasses college students and nobody seems to notice.

It is difficult to carry on when the city has entered into civil service and union contracts that allow a police officer whose testimony will not be accepted by the district attorney to return to work after being fired by the chief of police.

It is difficult to carry on when Comanche Street in front of the little H-E-B remains closed and there has been no activity for almost 90 days.

It is difficult to carry on when the city thinks so little of its citizens that the Comanche Street project not only has become an embarrassment, but does not seem to be a priority for city employees or elected officials. This makes the city look like a fool.

It is difficult to carry on when we have a subdivision (Blanco Vista) that we can not afford to police.

It is difficult to carry on when we have another subdivision developing south of town that we will not be able to police.

It is difficult to carry on when both of those subdivisions have been subsidized by the city and we will not receive adequate compensation for city expenses for many, many years.

Sincerely,
Charles Sims
San Marcos

  1. Thank you for your letter, Mr. Breihan.

There is a news story about the false allegations made in the campaign flyers sent out by Daniel Guerrero.

This story is by Patrick George and is on the Austin American Statesman website.

The story is titled “San Marcos mayor candidates tussle over ad claims.”

  2. Wow….. interesting comment on Camilles link ! Or should I say to her post about john vs Daniel on the statesman. Sorry this had to come out .
