Bobcats snap winning streak at Central Arkansas

The Texas State volleyball team ended a three-match winning streak Saturday as Central Arkansas continued asserting itself as the best team in the Southland Conference.

The Bobcats lost in three games at Central Arkansas by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-14. Central Arkansas has won 15 straight matches this season and 32 straight in the Southland Conference, the second longest conference winning streak in the nation. The Bears also have won 26 straight home matches going back to last season. They are 21-6 overall this season.

Freshman Amari Deardorff led the Texas State effort with 12 kills. After close calls in the first two matches, during which Deardorff totaled 10 kills, Central Arkansas made life easier on itself by holding Deardorff to two kills in the third game.

Central Arkansas leads the Southland Conference at 10-2, now followed by Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) at 9-1. The Bobcats hold third place at 7-3. They are 14-10 overall.

Leading up to the Central Arkansas match, the Bobcats won consecutive home matches against Sam Houston State on Oct. 14, Stephen F. Austin (SFA) on Oct. 16 and Texas-Arlington (UTA) on Oct. 20.

The Bobcats play again Thursday at Sam Houston State. The Bobcats won their meeting at Strahan Coliseum by scores of 25-17, 15-25, 25-19 and 25-20. AJ Watlington set a career high with 18 saves.
