Award-winning author Annie Proulx will hold a reading and book signing 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the Katherine Anne Porter House in Kyle.
The event is cosponsored by the Therese Kayser Lindsey Reading Series and the Texas State english department. It is free and open to the public. Proulx’s first novel, Postcards, depicting the decline of the small farm, received the PEN/Faulkner Award. She received the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award for The Shipping News, which was released as a film in 2001.
Subsequent novels include Accordion Crimes and That Old Ace in the Hole. In 1999 Proulx released Close Range: Wyoming Stories. A story in that collection, “Brokeback Mountain,” was adapted as an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe Award-winning major motion picture released in 2005. Her other story collections include Heart Songs, Bad Dirt and Fine Just the Way It Is: Wyoming Stories 3. Proulx’s short stories have appeared in several editions of the O. Henry Prize Stories and Best American Short Stories.
