Library to participate in 'Texas Library Snapshot Day'

The San Marcos Public Library, located at 625 East Hopkins Street, encourages library supporters to drop in for “Texas Library Snapshot” Day.

The San Marcos Public Library will participate “Texas Library Snapshot” Day on Oct. 19. Libraries throughout Texas will participate in the statewide event.

The library will compile statistics, comments from customers, photographs and other data chronicling a typical library day, which will serve as a kind of “snapshot” of daily library services. The results of the collected data will be added to those of other participating libraries and will seek to show how libraries provide services to Texans.

“This celebration of a day in the life of the San Marcos Public Library will spotlight the role the library plays in the lives of people in San Marcos and Hays County,” said San Marcos Public Library Director Stephanie Langenkamp.

San Marcos library patrons and supporters are asked to drop by the library, share their thoughts about the library and participate in some of the day’s activities. The library will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

“Families will bring their youngest children to experience the wonders of great picture books,” Langenkamp said. “Older children will work on research projects while adults do their own research on health issues, home improvement, and employment opportunities. Others will catch up with friends via email on the library’s public use computers. And last, but certainly not least, one day’s worth of the library’s 150,000 books, DVDs, and audio books will go home for countless hours of reading pleasure.”

Last spring’s Texas Library Snapshot Day logged in over 500 libraries and found thousands of Texans using their local libraries to use computers, look for jobs, finish up homework, do research or attend programs.

Texas Library Association Executive Director Patricia H. Smith said,  “Every day, Texas libraries provide valuable services and resources to the people of our state to educate, entertain, and contribute to the economic well-being of our state.”

Texas Library Snapshot Day is a project of the Texas Library Association and the San Marcos Public Library.
